Obituary of Betty E. Thomas
Betty Jane Erickson Thomas, 83, of 1629 West Third St. Jamestown, passed away peacefully Wednesday February 15, 2012 in WCA Hospital.
She was born July 12, 1928 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Ernest and Eva Marie Linner Erickson.
Betty was a 1946 graduate of Jamestown High School and was active in the 100 Member Club. She worked at Blue Cross/Blue Shield for 5 years and at Thomas Webco for 30 years.
She had been a member of the Mayville Senior Citizens and the Jamestown Senior Center. Betty knitted and donated hundreds of baby booties and afghans for WCA Hospital Gift Shop and also the Salvation Army where she had been a bell ringer. She especially enjoyed volunteering at Lincoln School in kindergarten and in the Library thru RSVP and at JNP for many years.
Betty and her husband enjoyed traveling the world with trips to Egypt, Italy, Greece, Portugal and Mexico. She proudly talked about seeing the Pyramids and riding a camel in Egypt, and walking around the Coliseum in Rome.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda T. (Dennis) Scotty of Lakewood; Ann L. Thomas of Jamestown; two granddaughters, Melissa Scotty (Brian) LeVesque of Rochester, NY; Christie Scotty (Jeff) Totten of Portland, OR; three great grandchildren, Erin Rachel LeVesque, Sara Allison LeVesque, Evan Arthur Totten; and several beloved nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur E. Thomas whom she married November 26, 1949 and who died August 17, 2003; three sisters, Florence Barnes, Gladys Sandwick, and Mildred Carlson; and three brothers, Walter, Edward, and Herbert Erickson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
