Obituary of Margaret M. Bly

Margaret M. Bly, 99, of the Frewsburg Rest Home and formerly 3207 Dutch Hollow Road, died Monday, February 20, 2012 in WCA Hospital. She was the widow of Marvin H. Bly, whom she married October 9, 1920 and who died August 19, 1987. Together they owned and operated a family dairy farm for many years, retiring in 1983. Margaret was born June 25, 1912 in Herman, NY, one of six children of the late Carl and Ina Reynolds Van Atter. She graduated from the former Lakewood High School in 1930. In earlier years a member of First Baptist Church in Jamestown, she was presently a member of Fluvanna Community Church. She belonged to the Chautauqua Holstein Club, Home Bureau, National Grange and the 4-H and was a past president of the Bemus Point PTA. Surviving is a daughter, Nancy B. (Irwin) Ruttenbur of Jamestown; two sons, Maurice D. (Patricia) Bly of Jamestown and Robert M. (Judy) Bly of Hockingport, OH; nine grandchildren: Rhonda Francis of Charlotte, NC, Rodney Ruttenbur of Gerry, NY, Laurie Gross of Jamestown, Marla Dorsey of Columbia, MD, Myra Thornton of Sumter, SC, Russell Bly of Cassadaga, NY, Robin Kaynor of Shelby, OH, Paul Bly of Littleton, CO and Scott Bly of Parkersburg, WV; 16 great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; four step-grand and three step-great grandchildren; and a brother, Mahlon Van Atter of Spring Hill, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death a grandson, Randall Bly and granddaughter, Patricia Moore; two great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild; and a sister, Marjorie Kostro and three brothers, Wait, George and Earl Van Atter. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle F. Keefer will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fluvanna Community Church Building Fund, 3363 Fluvanna Ave, Ext., Jamestown, NY 14701.
