Obituary of James J. Adamczak Sr.
James J. Adamczak Sr., 74, of 75 Oakhill Dr., Hamburg, NY, formerly of Jamestown, died Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Gowanda Rehabilitation & Nursing Center.
He was born August 17, 1937 in Jamestown, a son of the late Stephen and Alice Mason Adamczak Sr., and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1955.
In earlier years, Jim was employed by the Proto Tool Co. He began his employment with United Parcel Service in 1966, working in Jamestown, Dunkirk and Olean, and retired from UPS in Buffalo as a manager in 1992.
Jim enjoyed gardening, bowling and golf and looked forward to wintering in Myrtle Beach where he also worked for a golf course. He was well known for his years of softball locally and recognized in 2005 by induction into the Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Marcia Pachol Adamczak whom he married August 2, 1958 in Jamestown; four children: Lori (Tom) Lassen of Frewsburg, James (Christie) Adamczak Jr. of Lynchburg, VA, Sally (Curt) Walsh of Olean, NY and Dr. Susan Adamczak of Hamburg; seven grandchildren: Jessica Lassen of New Castle, PA, SN Benjamin Lassen, U.S. Coast Guard stationed in Wilmington, NC, Brian (Andrea) Adamczak, Ashley (Taylor) Glass and Zachary Adamczak, all of Lynchburg, Amanda Walsh of Elkhorn, WI and Nicholas Walsh of Olean; two step-grandchildren: Kevin O'Connell and Pfieffer Trent, both of Lynchburg; a great-grandson, Landon Adamczak of Lynchburg; and a niece and four nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen Adamczak Jr. and sister, Karen Brink.
The funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
