Obituary of Leonore E. Swan

Leonore E. Swan, 90, formerly of 410 Superior St. Jamestown passed away at 6:15 a.m. Thursday (March 15, 2012) in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. A lifelong area resident, she was born November 22, 1921 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Arthur and Olga Swanson Thoren. She was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School where she was a member of the Jamestown High School Orchestra and the A'Cappella Choir. In earlier years she was a waitress at the former Governor Fenton Hotel and Gandy's Restaurant. She and her husband Vern owned and operated the former 7-11 Convenience Store on McDaniel Ave. and also with her son and daughter in law operated Swan's Country Market and The Coffee Cup Restaurant in Gerry. She had also worked for Johnson Machine and Fiber Products. She was a longtime member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club of Jamestown. She loved her church, family and many friends. She also enjoyed music, flowers and was an avid sports enthusiast especially watching many baseball and football games. Surviving are three sons, Dennis L. (Debbie) Swan, Gregory G. (Cindy) Swan both of Lakewood, NY, John D. Swan of Ashville, NY, nine grandchildren Kimberly Ognibene of Falconer, NY, Brett Swan, Jennifer Swan-Leuze both of Jamestown, Dusty Swan of Plano, TX, Dennie Swan-Scott of Lake George, NY, Dannielle Swan of Snohomish, WA, Jonathan Swan, Ashley Swan, Paulina Swan all of Pittsford, NY, 13 great grandchildren, a brother Daniel (Sally) Thoren of Salem, NH as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Vernis C. "Vern" Swan whom she married September 6, 1940 and who died March 19, 1993, a daughter Cathy L. Swan Huntington who died November 26, 2010, a son in law Ronald Huntington, a grandson Scott Swan, and by three sisters Beverly Driscoll, Georgia Darroch, Anita Rolph. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Alison Leitzel, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 825 Forest Ave. Jamestown, NY 14701.
