Obituary of Alice V. Lawson

Alice V. Lawson, 93, of 160 Connecticut Ave. Jamestown, formerly of Camp St. Ext. passed away at 1:20 p.m. Friday (March 16, 2012) in W.C.A. Hospital. An area resident for most of her life she was born March 22, 1918 in Erie, PA a daughter of the late Axel and Anna Johnsson Lindblad. Alice spent her childhood years growing up in Gerry, NY and graduated from Falconer High School in 1935. She was also a graduate of the Buffalo Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the Nurse Corps for three years during World War II. She was stationed at Pearl Harbor where she worked in the amputee ward. Following the war and her return to Jamestown she had worked for Dr. Bugby for several years. Before her tour of duty in the Navy she had worked for the former Jamestown General Hospital for three years. She and her husband owned and operated a successful dairy farm of Camp St. Ext. for many years. The prefix "Lawcrest" was well known worldwide as they placed over forty bulls in various breeding services. They held many records and awards in the dairy industry and had attended many Holstein conventions in the United States. They also enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and spent several winters in Florida. She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother who loved to walk, travel and spend time near the lake. She also loved animals and had a very keen interest in the study of nutrition. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses South Congregation. Surviving are her husband of 65 years Ralph J. Lawson whom he married January 26, 1947, two sons John (Margaret) Lawson of Pittsford, NY, David Lawson of Westfield, a daughter Debra (Jerrold) Mraz of Oxford CT, six grandchildren Erika Lawson (Matthew) Wallace of Cambridge, MA, Matthew Lawson of Stamford, CT, Shawn Lawson of Jamestown, NY, Jody Mraz of Boston, MA, Jason Mraz and Lynn Mraz both of Oxford, CT. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Emil Lindblad in 1988 and Carl Lindblad in 1982. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Paul Inserra of the Jehovah's Witnesses will officiate. Burial will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
