Obituary of Rick G. Shagla

Rick G. "Shadubie" Shagla 51, of North Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Jamestown, died Friday March 16, 2012 in the Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, FL surrounded by his loving family and friends. A Florida resident since 2003, he was born October 28, 1960 in Jamestown the son of the late George T. and Nicolina Lupica Shagla. Rick attended Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School, where he served as an Altar Server, custodian, and assisted at Holy Cross Cemetery. He was a 1979 graduate of Jamestown High School where he was active in sports, and the band. He later earned his Associates Degree in accounting from Jamestown Community College. While living in Jamestown he was President of Shagla's Business Services, Inc, where he was responsible for all aspects of the business, including accounting, computer software and program development and employee management, to mention a few, where his numerous skills were indispensible. In Florida he worked as a computer consultant for Quality POS Systems.com. In earlier years, he worked as a bartender and Manager in the Jamestown area at several establishments, including, the Green Door, Grog Shop, and Trader Jack's. For 26 years, Rick courageously battled Guillain Barre' Syndrome and additionally was even a cancer survivor. Despite the many obstacles he faced, he met each day with his always positive, upbeat attitude and humor that has and will continue to inspire many. Rick led an extremely active social life and enjoyed every minute of it living each day as if it were his last. Most importantly, he was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and loyal friend. From uncontrollable laughter, to wheelchair races, he shared a special bond with his only granddaughter, Taige. Rick had an amazing heart, which he shared with everyone. He never quit, he fought until the end. Surviving are his daughter, Brandy (Justin) Kinney of Randolph, NY; his granddaughter, Taige Kinney of Randolph; four sisters, Lori (Joseph) Strzelec of Holland, NY; Debbie (Otis) Webster of Raleigh, NC; Robin (Gary) Squire of Rapid City, SD; Charen (Ronald) Epstein of Clarence, NY; one brother, Jerry (Cindy) Shagla of Rapid City, SD; and 14 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Georgia Rohde; and his maternal grandmother, Josephine Lupica. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in Holy Apostles Parish, Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The Rev. Dennis W. Mende, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led by Rev. Mende at 1:45 p.m. A Memorial Service and celebration of Rick's life is being planned in Fort Myers, FL at a later date.
