Obituary of Myles D. Swanson
Myles D. Swanson, 87, of 1 Hazel Avenue, died Tuesday March 20, 2012, in his home.
A lifelong area resident, he was born April 8, 1924, in Jamestown, a son of the late Hjalmer and Hazel Lawson Swanson.
Following graduation from Jamestown High Scholl in 1943, he served in the US Air Corps from July 1, 1943 to May 15, 1946 as an aircraft specialist in the Asia-Pacific Theater in India and China. He later served with the 40th Military Police Battalion, received a Bronze Star and was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.
He worked for a number of companies in the Jamestown area and retired from the former Falconer Metal Specialties as a maintenance supervisor.
He was a member of the former Epworth Christ United Methodist Church and later joined Christ First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two sons Thomas M. Swanson of Orange City Florida and John T. Swanson of Cairo, Egypt; two nieces and two nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, the former Lois Nelson, whom he married November 19, 1949 and who died May 8, 2010, and three brothers Arthur, Harold and Gordon Swanson.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Christ Chapel of Christ First United Methodist Church. Rev. Natalie Hanson will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home.
