Obituary of Geneva H. Fisher
Geneva H. Fisher, of 68 Chestnut Street, died Friday March 23, 2012, in WCA Hospital.
An area resident most of her life, she was born in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Robert and Effie Thoren Helgren.
She was a 1934 graduate of Jamestown High School.
Prior to her retirement she was employed by Jamestown Public School System for 33 years as the adult education teacher. She earlier had worked for Bigelow's Department Store and J. G. White Engineering Company, Niagara Falls, NY.
She was active in numerous organizations in Jamestown. Mrs. Fisher was an associate member of WCA Hospital Auxiliary, Creche Inc, Chautauqua Blind Association, The Fortnightly and Southern Tier Kidney Association. Her memberships include YWCA, Humane Society, Reuben E. Fenton Philatelic Society, Wallenberg Committee, Fenton Historical Society, Hundred Member Club, Marvin Community House, First Lutheran Church, Health System Agency of WNY and Community Housing Resource Board.
Through the years she had served as president of the following groups Jamestown League of Women Voters, Visiting Nurse Auxiliary, Warner Home, Political Study Club and Inter-Club Council. In 1995 Inter-Club Council awarded her Woman of the Year honors.
Surviving are her husband Warren P. Fisher, whom she married May 9, 1947; a brother Dr. Robert Helgren of Larchmont, NY; a niece Terry Renaldi of Larchmont, NY; a nephew David Helgren of Naples, FL; cousins Hans and Brit Frederickson of Sweden and Anita Juul and grand niece Charlotte Barnard.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate.
Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home.
