Obituary of Leon S. Anderson

Leon Stone Anderson, 75, of Busti, died Saturday March 24, 2012, in his home. He was born August 1, 1936 in Jamestown, a son of the late Stone and Bertha McCullough Anderson, but yearned to be a country boy. He was a 1955 graduate of Jamestown High School. Working on nearby farms, he learned a lot from other farmers. He worked as a milk tester for Chautauqua County Dairy Herd Improvement Association for several years before working for Kimball's farm in Kennedy, NY. While here he purchased a small dairy farm on Shadyside Road in Busti. Later buying his second farm on Busti-Sugar Grove Road, he started his business, Noel Brook Farms, with dairy cattle which later allowed him to invest in exotic animals. He raised rheas, emus, nilgai, buffalo, peacocks, angora goats, llamas, donkeys and numerous other animals. This led to selling and transporting animals throughout the United States. He also had agriculture related sales with Conklin, Vigortone and DeKalb products. He served as a Busti Planning Board Member for over 40 years. His past memberships include 4-H, Kidder Church, Busti Grange, Ross Grange, Extension Service and Farm Bureau, Holstein Associations and several exotic animal groups. His family wishes to thank all the people who helped Leon, especially those involved with his medical needs at home. Surviving are his wife the former Joyce Thompson, whom he married June 29, 1957; four children Randall Anderson of Busti, Linda Anderson of Busti, Lisa (Philip) Lowe of Busti and Marvin (Christina) Anderson of Ashville; five grandchildren Brittany Anderson, Jessica Lowe, Michael Lowe, Sasha Sorvelli and Cody Anderson; two great grandchildren Jade and Ella Sorvelli and a brother LeRoy Anderson of Guys Mills, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Pastor Warren Van Dewark will officiate. A private family burial service will be held in Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received from 1-2:30 and 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
