Obituary of Jacob P. "Jake" DeRaat
Jacob P. "Jake" DeRaat, 85, of Sherman, NY, died Friday, April 27, 2012 in WCA Hospital.
He was born January 7, 1927 in Oss Voana, the Netherlands, the son of the late Abram and Lena Toledo DeRaat.
Jake was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Dutch Army's police action in Indonesia.
He came to the United States in the 1950's and has been a self-employed dairy farmer for many years.
Jake was a member of the Jehovah's Witness West Congregation.
In addition to his wife, the former Ellen Kramarich whom he married November 3, 1968, surviving are three children: Charles (Linda) Carlson of Panama, NY, Jessie (George) Boyer of Jamestown and Betty Carlson of Warren, PA; ten grandchildren and one great-grandson; two sisters in the Netherlands; and many nieces and nephews in both the United States and the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Kingdom Hall West on Baker Street. Friends will be received following the service Saturday at Kingdom Hall.
The family suggests memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
