JoAnn,
There is a very short Irish saying that ges like this; Death leaves a heartache no one can heal...Love leaves a memory no one can steal. It is difficult to reconcile the fragility of ones life but memories are the cornerstone of strength. Like others, it has been decades since I saw you but I have vivid memories of a solid, playful, intelligent, and remarkable young man; Mark.
I am with you in thought.

Mark was a great person, and will always hold a spot in my heart. He was sweet, honest, caring, and genuine. I hope that all that came in contact with him will share a little bit of that with the world through themselves, because we could all benefit from knowing a man like him.

JOANN, MARK, LISA, BEN, KATE AND FAMILIES. THE WORLD HAS LOST AN ANGEL, AND HEAVEN AS DEFINITLEY GAINED ONE. MARK WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL MAN AND A GREAT NEIGHBOR. MANY MANY TIMES, WHEN WE WERE SNOWED IN AND WOULD BE OUT THERE SHOVELING TO GET TO OUR HOME, MARK WOULD COME OUT EVEN IF IT WAS AT 9 OR 10 AT NIGHT AND HELP US. SO MANY SUMMER DAYS WE WOULD HEAR HIM LAUGHING ON THE DOCK WITH THE GRANDKIDS, TEACHING THEM TO FISH AND BEING SO HAPPY AND EXCITED WHEN THEY WOULD CATCH ONE.HE WOULD SIT ON THAT DOCK FOR HOURS WITH THEM WATCHING THEM SPLASH AROUND IN THE LAKE HAVING SUCH A GREAT TIME. MARK HAS DEFINITELY EARNED HIS ANGEL WINGS AND WE KNOW THAT IS IS SMILING DOWN ON ALL OF YOU. REST IN PEACE MARK AND GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU.

To Mark's family; I believe all that knew Mark were touched in some positive manner. Even when he was feeling badly he would downplay that and try to focus on the good things. I knew him for many years at work and always enjoyed his viewpoint and manner of living. Ah, that laugh! I don't believe I will ever forget it; just the thought of him laughing brings a smile to my face and obviously many others feel the same. What a wonderful legacy to leave this Earth with. I hope you will all find peace in knowing that he is released from the pains here on Earth and is forever walking in the Light of his Lord. Blessings to all of you.

What can I say, other than I will always remember his laugh. Mark had a unique and contagious laugh. He was a kind individual full of life and laughter. I always enjoyed haning out over at the Swansons house with Ben and Jesse. It was great listening to Mark tell us jokes, laughing like he always did, and of course the many summer days we spent with Mark and the family out on the lake. Those were great times and I know that Mark was one of the many church leaders who helped shape me into the man I am today. I know he's gone from this earthly life but I am certain he's eagerly and happily engaged in another important chapter of his eternal existence. He is missed but never forgotten.

Jo Anne and family, may God comfort you and give you strength at this time. Know that you are in our prayers. I am sure over the years Mark was the "best friend" to many as he was for me during our time together at Lakewood Elementary School. The Swanson family was living on Hunt Road at the time and we were neighbors. Matt and Charlie - my brothers and I share fond memories of those days when we each had a "best friend" living next door.

Dear JoAnne and family,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. It's been many years since I have seen any of you, but it seems like just yesterday, JoAnne, that you and Mark were my 6th grade Sunday School teachers at the Lakewood United Methodist Church. In particular I remember going to your home in Jamestown for a Halloween party. We all sat in a circle with our hands underneath a big white sheet and you proceeded to tell of one of your cats being hit by a car and you were passing its remains around the circle. We were not allowed to look underneath the sheet. I remember cooked lasagna noodles were the intestines and peeled grapes were the eyeballs. We also bobbed for apples that night and everyone had a lot of fun. You and Mark have always had a special place in my heart. I always looked forward to seeing you at the Christmas Eve service at LUMC when I would visit my parents. I also remembet the many times that I babysat for Mark, Lisa and Luke in Ashville. You all are in my thoughts and prayers. May God give you peace throughout this difficult time.

Dear Joann and family members,
What a wonderful man, church leader and christlike man who love people, laughed, smiled and made you feel a part of his family. He truly loved all, he loved Heavenly Father with all his heart and knew the Book of Mormon was true.
He knew that the gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was true. He loved attending the temple. He inspired me with his wonderful and spiritual words, his kindness and his willing to do good for me and others.
My love and prayers are with you all. Mark loved his family with all his heart and had plenty to share with anyone who was near to him.
I love you all,

Jo Ann, Mark, Lisa, and family,
I haven't seen Mark in many, many years. But his memory holds for me special thoughts of my childhood. I remember most prominently his laugh. His laugh was one that spread like a wildfire. Even if what he was laughing at wasn't funny to others, they would laugh with him just because he was taking such pleasure in what he was looking at. I recall watching a film at the Ashville Elementary School with my dad (Joe Hewson) and sitting with Mark (Jr.) who was my best friend at the time. The movie was a stop motion film that had men and women dressed up in biker outfits, sitting on the ground, posing like they were driving motorcycles. The stop action film made it look like they were gliding along the ground (while sitting) and performing various maneuvers on their bikes. Besides the movie being funny, I remember Mark howling with laughter and everyone else around him laughing too.
Mark was almost like having a second dad as Mark Jr and I were always doing things together. He was always helpful and kind to me. Going over to the house in Ashville was always a wonderful time.
I am truly sorry for your loss and I ask God to bless all of you and keep you as this is truly a difficult time in your lives. My wife of 19 years (Jan) and I lost her youngest daughter last year to alcohol and drugs. Sara was 27. This was a very hard time for us. But we have found that God gives us grace and strength for each day and then the next. Savor your time with family and friends as this will give you strength in the days ahead.
With love and concern,
Tom Hewson
note: If any of you need to talk sometime, please feel free to call me. I would especially like to hear from Mark Jr as we have fallen out of touch these many years. (706) 244-1323
