Obituary of Jeffrey A. Depas

Jeffrey A. Depas, 54, of 264 East Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY passed away Thursday (May 10, 2012) in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Buffalo, NY. A lifelong area resident he was born December 15, 1957 in Jamestown, NY a son of Simon S. and Nina Nelson Depas. He was a 1976 graduate of Southwestern Central School and following graduation enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served almost six years from January 3, 1976 to December 31, 1982. He had most recently been employed as a boat mechanic by The Boatworks in Celoron and earlier worked for many years at the Ashville Bay Marina. Jeff was well known as the best boat mechanic around Chautauqua Lake. He was a very patient person and loved working on boat engines for hours on end. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and really enjoyed spending time at his camp. He also had a keen interest in flying model airplanes. Surviving are his parents Simon and Nina Depas of Lakewood, a sister Diane Depas of Busti, a brother Terry Depas of Jamestown, as well as several aunts, uncles and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Edwin and Katherine Nelson and his paternal grandparents Seraphim and Athena Depas. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2012, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Jamestown will officiate. Burial will be in the Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
