You might not recognize my name but my mother was Clara Louise Beck and my grandmother was Mildred Beck. I believe our families go back quite a long way. I had my portrait painted by Lurabel as a child & my mother had her paint my children's for me, each at age 3.(actually the portraits are colored pencil - my favorite) I am extremely fortunate to have those treasures in my home as Lurabel was a VERY talented artist. She was lovely to me & my children & I will always hold pleasant & dear memories of her. I'm very sorry for your loss - Julie Benedett Dudgeon

I remember her drawling my portrait, she must have been a talented lady to get a 10 year like me, who still can't sit still, to sit still for over 3 hours. I glad she had such a long and meaningful life and I am honored that I was a small part of it.
Me and my siblings portraits hang in my moms house to this day and will always help to define "home," for me.
Thank you and for your talent and rest in peace.

Mrs. Colburn did a beautiful pastel portrait of my three children about 15 years ago. I thought about her every time I passed her home on my way to Bemus, with fond memories. She was an amazing woman and a very talented artist. I will continue to glance at her home and keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Colburn (I never allowed myself to call her Lurabel until I was 50) was one of my favorite grown-ups when I was a kid. Hers was the first home-made pizza I ever had and I still use her recipe to this day. She and I enjoyed talking about Swedenborgian beliefs. Martha, David and Bruce, may there be peace and laughter in your memories of your mother. with love,

Mrs Colburn painted a portrait of me as a child in 1965, and we asked her to do the same for our kids in the late 90s. She was an amazing woman, and we looked forward to our brief moments with her as we dropped off and picked up the pictures and portraits.I'm happy for her family to have had such a wonderful Matriarch, and sorry for your loss.

Dear Family, Lurabel touched many lives in her time here on earth, but I will never forget how she touched my life and my heart. I went to her a few years ago to ask her about creating portraits of the past A Cappella choir directors from Jamestown high school. Not only did she render portraits that captured the personalities of the directors, she, after learning that I too created portraits, had me sit in with her teaching me lessons as only she could. Lurabel offered some enlightening life advice while I sat with her those days....not only in the world of art, but also in life. When I became sick and unable to function in the way I was used to nearly 6 years ago, it was Lurabel's words I remembered when art therapy was offered to me. " let your heart flow through your hands ". I still feel her kind, passionate spirit as I create my artwork and find that some of my best creations are rendered out of love, just like she said they would be. Thank you for sharing Lurabel with those, like me, who have treasured her lessons. She was truly a gem and will be missed.
