Obituary of Joyce E. Knowlton

Joyce E. Knowlton, 85, formerly of Frewsburg and Gerry, died at 10:55 p.m. Wednesday (June 6, 2012) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born July 20, 1926 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Clarence and Maude Backus LaDow. Prior to retirement in 1985, Joyce worked as a cook for the Cassadaga Valley Central School District for 25 years. She was a life member of the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department auxiliary. Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Miller (Kenny) of St. Cloud, FL; Judy Cardone (Jim) of Wewahitchka, FL; Kathy (late Daniel) Robinson of Frewsburg; a son, retired Master Sgt. US Army Dennis (Becky) Knowlton of Kempner, TX; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Bastedo of Hamburg, NY. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn E. Knowlton whom she married January 7, 1945 and who died February 25, 2006; and a brother, Earl LaDow. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Falconer. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Gerry Volunteer Fire Department, 4490 Gerry Levant Road, Gerry, NY 14740.
