When I began working at Friendly's restaurant in 1998, one of the best memories I had of my two years of service there was Phyllis. Golly did she make me laugh. I was a student at JCC and she was so eager to make me laugh and give me honest advice about life and such. Often times, she would come in for a meal and begin her meal with a banana split Sunday. Her thought was that no could boss her around or tell her it would make her fat. (I knew her husband had passed.) But of course she did this with a biting sense of humor and an almost matter of fact sense of reasoning. I always looked forward to seeing her and I am sure she had a blessed life. I was just telling someone three days about Phyllis from Friendly's who used to eat a Banana Split for dinner and it really made me smile. I lost my own grandmother and grandfather in the last two months, and this memory of her really made me smile. Prayers to her whole family. What a wonderful lady.

For the past year and a half I have talked with my mom on the phone every day with very little exception. I am grateful for that time with her as she was not only my mother but became a great confidant, friend and sarcasm partner. I will really miss talking with her and getting the type of advice you can only get from someone who has lived eighty-six years, eighty six very difficult years. My mother never ever had an easy life. If anyone tells you she did, they are pulling your leg. Most of all I will miss her quick wit, sense of humor, and oh my, that sometimes sharp tongue. That is what I will miss most of all, that sharp tongue, it made me laugh. I loved matching wits with her, but I was always on the short end of those conversations.
I visited mom last year with my daughter Amanda (with child Briella, moms’ great granddaughter) and again a few weeks ago with my wife Patti. I would not trade those times for anything in the world as I watched my daughter and my mother connect and laugh and tell stories as they anticipated the birth of my moms’ great granddaughter and our first grandchild.
My mom knew the Lord and for this I am again blessed and grateful and can rest assured that I will indeed see her once again. And when I see her again, she will be without pain and suffering and harsh memories. May God continue to love and bless you mom.

Phyllis, I will always remember your laugh and your zest for life. It was so much fun having you and Jack as our next door neighbors when you lived on Lakeside Drive in Ashville. You were the one person who could actually keep up with me in the joke department. I will always hold you in my heart and remember all of the fun times we had over the years. May you rest in peace dear. Love you, Laurie

My Grandma Phyllis was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Her sense of humor definitely runs in the family, and she would say "well, it's in the blood." I am so happy to have had the opportunity to spend time getting to know her in person and share so many memories. We also shared many laughs and Banana Splits down at Friendly's. I am also so thankful that she got to meet her great-granddaughter Briella through pictures and video chats on the computer. I will have many fond memories to share with my daughter about her great-grandmother. While we are heartbroken to no longer have her in our lives, we are also joyous that she is no longer in discomfort and pain. We know she is up in heaven dancing with the angels!
