Obituary of Verna G. Gustafson
Verna G. Gustafson, 96, of 600 High Ave., Endicott, NY, formerly of 1629 W. Third St., Jamestown, died Monday, August 6, 2012at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, NY.
She was born March 13, 1916 in Stockton, NY, one of fifteen children of the late Irving William and Ina Belle Newbury Kesby.
Verna graduated from Bemus Point High School where she played basketball. She was employed for many years in the shipping department of the Proto Tool Co.
An avid league bowler, Verna also enjoyed playing cards. She was well known for her rice pudding and lemon meringue pie. Following retirement, one of her greatest enjoyments was garage sales.
Verna was always very family oriented. She was a strong and independent woman who outlived all of her siblings.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce (Stuart) Johnson of Owego, NY; five grandchildren: Jeffrey (Jeanie) Gustafson of Buffalo, Joel (Morgan) Johnson of Tampa, FL, Julie (Jesse) Patrick of Apalachin, NY, Lisa Gustafson of Jamestown and Amy Little of Wasilla, AK; ten great-grandchildren and two great- great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Gustafson who died July 30, 1982; and a son, Bruce Gustafson.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, August 11 in the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Saturday.
