Obituary of Raymond J. Tomassini
Raymond J. Tomassini, 51, of 409 Front Street, died Friday September 21, 2012, in WCA Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Jamestown, he was born December 13, 1960, a son of Jeff Tomassini and the late Mary E. Biggin Tomassini.
He was a 1979 graduate of Jamestown High School.
He was employed by Mayshark Builders for 23 years currently as project manager. He was very proud of his work and the mark it left on the Chautauqua Region. He considered it part of his legacy. While attending college at the University of New Orleans, he worked for Petagna and Walter, Inc.
He was an honorable, family man who took wonderful care of his wife, children, parents, immediate and extended family, workers, friends and clients. He was very involved in the activities of his children, nieces and nephews. He was very proud of co-chairing the Volunteer Committee for the 2002 Lakewood YMCA National Gymnastics Competition held in Niagara Falls, NY. He was an active volunteer for Centaur Stride, Inc., a Therapeutic Horseback Riding facility, where his son Matthew currently rides.
As an accomplished cook he was well known for preparing food for various parties and social events. He was an avid fan of the New York Jets and Mets and was a fanatic participant in fantasy football. His vegetable garden was his pride and joy.
Surviving besides his father of Jamestown are his wife the former Claire S. Ortendahl, whom he married July 1, 1983, a daughter Dr. Megan E. Tomassini of Jamestown, a son Matthew J. Tomassini of Jamestown, a sister Jaunita (David) Walter of Jamestown; a brother Edmond (Debra) Tomassini of Jamestown and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Natalie Hanson will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
