Obituary of Gordon J. Johnson

Gordon J. Johnson, 82, of North Harmony, passed away at 11:48 a.m. Wednesday (September 26, 2012) in W.C.A. Hospital. A lifelong area resident he was born July 31, 1930 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Ernest and Agnes Carlson Johnson. He was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the U.S. Army National Guard for 17 years. Before his retirement he was a mechanic for the Dover Elevator Company for many years. In earlier years he was co-owner of the former Hilltop Pennzoil Service Station on Forest Ave. He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who was an avid fisherman, spending many hours fishing at the Chautauqua Gorge. He was also a talented woodworker and was one of those guys who could fix and repair just about anything. He took great pride in his home which he built over 40 years ago. Surviving are his wife the former Jean Bernhard whom he married July 28, 1951, two daughters Julie (Peter) Levinson of Lakewood, NY, Jill (Michael) McFarland of Ellington and his grandson Cal Edborg of Franklin, Mass. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Romaine Sigular who died December 8, 1993. A memorial service will be held at a date and time to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home.
