Obituary of LeRoy M. Anderson

LeRoy M. Anderson, 89, of 537 Weeks St., died Friday, October 5, 2012 at the Oak Hill Manor Nursing Home in Ithaca, NY. He was born in Jamestown on March 23, 1923, a son of the late Ernest H. and Emma Sundin Anderson. A 1941 graduate of Jamestown High School, he graduated from Northwestern University, Department of Engineering in 1944. He attended Midshipman School at Columbia University in 1944 and received Navy communications/cryptography training at Harvard University in early 1945. He served in the US Navy as a communications officer/cryptographer in Manila until 1946, leaving Navy service with the rank of Lieutenant jg. Following World War II, Roy worked for Crescent Tool for several years before joining Marlin Rockwell/TRW in 1952, where he worked as an engineer for 33 years until his retirement in 1985. Roy remained active until just a few years ago, always enjoying working in his garden and doing various carpentry projects around the house. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lois Lundberg Anderson; his son, Bruce Anderson (Yukiko Kanai) of Glen Ridge, NJ and daughter, Mary Anderson Ochs (Mark) of Trumansburg, NY; three grandchildren, Andrew Ochs (Nicole) of Marshfield, MA, Daniel Ochs of Ithaca and Rebecca Ochs of Trumansburg; and his sister, Audrey Johnson of Jamestown. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin and Leslie Anderson. A memorial service and visitation will be held at a later date to be announced by the Lind Funeral Home. Burial will be in Soldier's Circle of Lake View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Park University, 3225 W. Foster Ave., Chicago, IL 60625.
