I had to opportunity to care for and get to know Jim when I was an Aide on A-1 at LSS. I remember Jim's dry sense of humor and witt and kind manner. My deepest condolences to Jim's family and friends as I know that he is deeply missed by each of you.
Sincerely,
Debra Scott

Our family would like you to know that Jim and Norm were roomates at LSS. Dad and Jim became friends and shared similar "bumps in the road." Norm went to heaven on 10/28 so so hopefully they are roomates again!

I am just getting around to reading the wonderful memories and good wishes offered here about my Dad. I am very grateful to all who have taken the time to express their thoughts about this extraordinarily kind and gentle man. He is my hero, despite subjecting me to nearly 60 years of corny jokes.

Mr. Jim Gustafson, along with Clyde Card, is responsible for igniting my interest in military service. I interviewed with the both of them to attend Boys' State in 1997, and it was there that I decided I was going to join ROTC in college. 15 years ago this past spring, his decision to send me during that interview has had, and continues to have, profound, positive, and lasting impact on my life and on my family. When I was injured in Iraq in 2004, Mr. Gustafson organized a "Get Well" card from Ira Lou #149. Now stationed in Hawaii, I am sorry that I did not learn of his passing until now. I owe much to him.

We met Jim when he taught with Chuck at Washington Junior High. While he was getting his Master's at UB, he lived with us week days in Buffalo. There are not many people who we would welcome into our home to live with us, but Jim was an exceptional guy! He always happily ate whatever I made for dinner, and I know that it wasn't that great at times. We feel fortunate to have had him for a friend.
