Obituary of Helen J. Swanson
Helen Swanson, 92, of 205 Spruce Street, Lakewood N Y died early Thursday morning Nov.8, 2012 at the Heritage Green Healthcare Facility in Greenhurst after a brief illness.
Helen was born February, 1920 in Jamestown N Y, the daughter of Swante and Loletta Lindberg Carlson.
She married Carl A Swanson on Sept 18, 1943 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Jamestown. She was a long time resident of Chautauqua County.
Helen was a 1938 graduate of Jamestown High School and employed in the Human Resources Department of Marlin Rockwell until she retired in 1980.
Helen was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Jamestown Political Study Group. She was a very independent woman who will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her generosity. Helen always had a joke to tell and was affectionately known to her family and friends as "Auntie Ho Ho"
Surviving are a daughter, Carol (Mark) Hassenberg of Red Bank, NJ; a grandson, Michael (Shannon) Hassenberg of Burlington, VT; a granddaughter, Jennifer (Vikkal) Parikh of Hoboken, NJ; four great grandchildren, Juliet, Ariel, and Claire Hassenberg, and Amiya Parikh; a sister, Kathryn Crossley of Jamestown. Also surviving are nephews, Jerry (Julie) Stanton of Jamestown; Thomas Stanton (Nancy) of Maple Springs; John (Liz) Crossley of Sinclairville; David (Janet) Crossley of Gerry; Steven (Anne) Johnson of Lafayette, LA; David Johnson of Houston, TX; Douglas Carlson of Port Orange, FL; Gary (Sallie) Swanson of Jamestown; and nieces, Lori (Leo) Jones of Jamestown; Bonnie (Paul) Quesenberry of Raleigh, NC; and Beverly (Jerry) Daniel of Moon, VA.
Helen was preceded in death by her Parents Swante and Loletta Carlson, her sister Virginia Atkins, her brother Frederick Carlson, her husband Carl A Swanson, her niece Janice Fera and her nephew Rodney Carlson.
The family will receive friends at the Lind Funeral Home on Saturday Nov. 10th from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The Funeral will be held on Sunday Nov. 11th at the Lind Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. The Rev. Daniel K. Nagle will officiate.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Hospice of Chautauqua County, 20 W. Fairmount Ave, Lakewood, NY 14750; or to a charity of one's choice.
