Obituary of Anthony F. Tuccio
Anthony F. "Tooty" Tuccio, 89, of 210 Ivy St. Jamestown, passed away at 8:17 p.m. Thursday (December 13, 2012) in his home following a brief illness and surrounded by his loving family.
A lifelong area resident he was born October 14, 1923 in Tortorici, Sicily a son of the late James and Carmella Russo Tuccio. He came to the United States when he was 6 months old.
Anthony was a graduate of Jamestown High School Class of 1943. He attended Jamestown Business College and later earned his Bachelor's and Master's Degree from St. Bonaventure University.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1943 to 1945 during World War II. He served in the U.S. Army Infantry and was wounded fighting on the front line in Anzio, Italy in 1944. For his wounds he was awarded the Purple Heart.
Before his retirement in 1985, he was a high school teacher for the Randolph Central School System for over 25 years. He also served as a class advisor and was the golf coach at Randolph for several years. During his teaching years he taught night school for the Jamestown Public Schools. In earlier years he worked in the bookkeeping department for Quality Markets.
He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church where he previously taught religious instruction to the children. He was also a member of the John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veteran of Foreign Wars and a member of the New York State Teachers' Association and the New York State Retired Teachers' Association. He loved the game of Golf and was a founding member of the Italian American Golf Tournament.
He will be remembered as a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather who loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Julia Ciancio whom he married April 16, 1955, his four son's Dr. AnthonyT. (Kim) Tuccio, Dr. Mark J. Tuccio both of Jamestown, Gregory J. (Rebecca) Tuccio of Broomfield, CO, James M. (Heather) Tuccio of Highlands Ranch, CO, eight grandchildren Nicholas, Alyse, Nathan Tuccio all of Buffalo, NY, Rebecca and Matthew Tuccio both of Jamestown, Brent (Paula) Tuccio of Thornton, CO, Jonathon Tuccio of Broomfield, CO, Isabella Tuccio of Highlands Ranch, CO and his two great grandchildren Ashley and Russell Tuccio.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Louis J. Tuccio, Joseph J. Tuccio and a sister Josephine Conti.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Christian Wake Service will be led at 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to a charity of one's choice.
