Obituary of Alfredo Frangione

Alfredo Frangione, 77, of 106 Willard St., died at 2:57 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 in WCA Hospital. He was born May 22, 1935 in Castiglione Marittimo Comune Di Falerna, Castanzaro, Italy, a son of the late Salvatore and Teresina Mantuano Frangione. After coming to the United States in 1956, Alfred worked for Welch's in Westfield, National Worsted Mills in Jamestown and did concrete work for the Trunzo family. He was then employed for 31 years by the Jamestown Department of Public Works, retiring as a foreman on December 28, 1992. In his earlier years Alfredo was an active member of the Northwestern New York State Soccer Association, playing for Jamestown's finest soccer team. Throughout his life, he has always been known as a proud and supportive Democrat. He enjoyed gardening, always very proud of his fig trees, and continually looked forward to traveling to Italy, having done so at least once a year since his retirement. Alfredo also loved the Opera. He is survived by his wife, Rosina Grandinetti Frangione, whom he married in Italy on July 29, 1971; two daughters, Teresina (Luigi) Isabella and Lucia (John) Guarnieri, both of Jamestown; and was known as 'Nonno' to his three grandchildren, Sofia and Stefano Isabella and Francesca Guarnieri. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews, including Joseph, Salvatore and Alfredo Frangione, all of Jamestown. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Orlando Frangione. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. Darrell G. Duffy will be celebrant. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, P.O.
