Obituary of John Farnsworth
John R. Farnsworth, 76, of 4860 Baker Street Ext, Ashville, died Friday December 28, 2012, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie.
He was born September 27, 1936, in Jamestown, a son of the late Rollo and Margaret Davis Farnsworth.
He served in the US Naval Reserve from 1953-61.
Prior to his retirement in 2009, he was employed by NAPA Unit Parts for 57 years. Following retirement he worked for Lake County Dodge.
He was a life member of Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department having served as past chief and past president. His other memberships include Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Eagles and Lakewood Memorial Post #1286 American Legion.
He enjoyed traveling and in earlier years was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a gifted mechanic especially when it came to boat engines. He also loved driving his lawn tractor around the yard in the summer months.
Surviving are his wife the former Freda Peterson, whom he married September 27, 2002; two daughters Sandra (Ronald) Barker of Gerry and Marcia (Bruce) Bretz of Lakewood; three step children Mark (Raisa) Rader of Alabama, Tammy (Randy) Restle of New Jersey and Dana (Trevor) Maynard of Clymer; 5 grandchildren Nelson and Norman Barker and Megan, Jordan and James Bretz; 8 step grandchildren Bobby, Kenny, Nicholas and Natasha Rader, Albrey Singer, Tanner Maynard and Madison and Mickenzie Restle; 4 step great grandchildren; a sister Sarah (Gene) Nelson of Lakewood and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son John N. Farnsworth; a brother Guy "Buster" Farnsworth and a sister Eleanor Falejczyk.
The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Peter Dawson, Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Chaplain will officiate.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and 10a.m. to noon Wednesday in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department.
