Obituary of Glenn A. Phillips
Glenn A. Phillips, 91, recently of Emeritus of Lakewood, formerly of 26 Lee Avenue, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 4:35 P.M. at WCA Hospital.
He was born September 13, 1921 in Jamestown, NY, the son of Philip F. and Lorena Johnson Phillips.
He was a 1939 graduate of Jamestown High School, and was a proud World War II veteran, serving in the US Army from 1942 to 1946, stationed in the South Pacific.
Glenn retired as Division Traffic Manager from MRC/TRW after 46 years of service. Following retirement, he remained active as a groundskeeper at Maplehurst Country Club. He is a member of the Lakewood American Legion and a former member of the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club. Glenn is a member of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ and more recently attended Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with his daughter and family.
Surviving is his wife of 69 years, Ethel (Ecklund) Phillips, whom he married August 30, 1943 by the Rev. Dennis Bauman, of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia (Greg) Swan of Lakewood, NY and son P. Andrew (Linnea) Phillips of Fairview, TN. He was the proud grandfather of Brett Swan of Jamestown, NY, Jennifer (Sean) Swan-Leuze of Lakewood, NY, Rachel Phillips of Yuba City, CA, Joel, Ethan, Hannah, Eli, and Abigail Phillips, Ashlee (Dean) Buchanan of Fairview, TN, and Jesse Phillips of Cleveland, TN; and his three great-granddaughters; Hadyn, Hannah, and Heidi Swan-Leuze, all of Lakewood, NY.
Glenn was a man of faith, openly thankful for the many blessings in his life, and instilled in all the importance and reverence of family. He was an avid golf and sports enthusiast, following the Jamestown Red Raiders long into his retirement. He was a master of Bar-B-Q, consummate story-teller, and valued neighbor. He will be missed, and always remain in the hearts of family and friends.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 5, 2013 in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 825 Forest Avenue, Jamestown, NY. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate.
Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ashville, NY.
Friends will be received from 4 to 6 P.M. Friday (January 4, 2013) in the Lind Funeral Home.
