Obituary of Anthony J. Casamento
Anthony J. "Tony" Casamento, 86, of Bemus Point, NY and Crane Lakes in Port Orange, Florida, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Halifax Health Hospice of Volusia/Flagler Care Center in Florida.
He was the husband of Marilyn L. Casamento, whom he married December 31, 1981.
Anthony was born November 12, 1926 in Jersey City, NJ, a son of the late Salvatore and Anna Jarvis Casamento. At the age of 3, the family moved from Hoboken, NJ to Jamestown where Anthony attended Jamestown High School. He was a World War II US Army veteran.
He owned and operated A.J. Casamento & Sons Food Distributing in Jamestown and The Savoy Restaurant in Warren, Pa., retiring in 1979, and with Marilyn moved to Florida following retirement. They were members of St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bemus Point, and Tony was a member of the choir for many years in their home parish in Port Orange, Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church.
Anthony loved his family, friends, playing golf and boating, but Tony will especially be remembered for his cooking and entertaining. He also enjoyed gardening, oil painting and traveling to Europe. Tony was a lifelong member of the War Vets Recreation, Ellery Memorial Post 947 VFW, the Lakewood Rod & Gun Club, and a former member of Maplehurst Country Club.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, Tony is survived by five children and two stepchildren: Dr. Daniel Casamento of Ellicottville, NY, Linda Casamento of Jamestown, Gregory (Brenda) Casamento of Ormond Beach, FL, Mark Casamento of Chicago, IL, Robert (Judy) Lawson of Jamestown, Janet (Robert) Fredrick of Bemus Point, NY, and Kathy (Mark) Walsh of Alfred, ME.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren and four step-grandchildren: Stephanie (Tom) Christensen of Erie, PA, Matthew Casamento and Christopher (Cristy) Casamento, both of Pittsburgh, Charlie Casamento and Mark (Kristy) Casamento, both of Chicago, Robin and Todd Lawson, Robert Lawson, Jr., Kimberly Swanson, Jason (Edward) Fredrick and Matthew Staples, all of Jamestown, Adam Walsh of Cassadaga, NY and Ashley Walsh of Sinclairville, NY; six great-grandchildren; six brothers: Joseph Castle of Jamestown, Bernard (Linda) Casamento of Port Orange, FL, Nathan Casement of Dayton, OH, Samuel (Ruscella) Casamento of North Carolina, and Salvatore and Joseph Casamento, both of New Jersey; and a sister, Anna Arrigo, also of New Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mariann, Josephine and Marie; a brother, Nick Casamento; his former wife, Marie Casamento; and a stepson, Steven Walsh.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18th in St. James Catholic Church. The Rev. John H. Kuhlmann will be celebrant. Burial will be in Stillwater Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home, where a Christian Wake Service will be held at 4:45 p.m.
