Obituary of Violet O. Laury
Violet Osborne Laury, 91, of 35 Erlfrd Drive Lakewood, died Friday (January 18, 2013) at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, NY.
A 60 year resident of the Lakewood area, she was born June 24, 1921 in Elmira, NY the daughter of Alton L. Osborne and Ethel Ames Osborne.Vi graduated from Elmira's Southside High School and St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1942, Elmira, NY.
She was a registered nurse at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, NY and her husband, Dr. Roland Laury's medical office, also the offices of Dr. Ansel Martin and Dr. Fred Cohen.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Jamestown since 1952 where she was a former Deacon. She was also a charter member of Jamestown General Hospital auxiliary and WCA Jr. auxiliary, Red Cross Blood Bank and the Presbyterian Retirement Home.
Vi was devoted to her family and always made the holidays special with her wonderful culinary skills. Easters leg of lamb was better than any 4 star restaurant would serve and her desserts were over the top. She was an avid reader of suspense novels, but gardening was her passion. She had one of the most beautiful lawn and gardens on Terrace Ave in Lakewood.
Surviving are her son, Arthur "Ted" Laury and wife Vicki of WE; three daughters, Lynn Laury Penn and husband Tom of Rochester, NY; Kim Laury Pflaum and husband Christopher of Punta Gorda, FL; and Jill Laury Bootey and husband John of Jamestown, NY. Ten grandchildren, Heather Laury Ryczek and husband Christopher of Victor, NY; Christopher Laury of Jamestown, NY; Michael and Andrew Laury of Celoron, NY; Peter Penn and wife Deanna of Pompano Beach, FL; Kimberly Penn of Rochester, NY; Laury Pflaum of St. Petersburg, FL; Brynn Bootey Fagerstrom and husband David of Colorado Springs, CO; Thomas John "T.J." Bootey of Boston, Mass; and Benjamin Bootey of Jamestown, NY; five great grandchildren, Spencer, Mitchell, Drew, and Cooper Ryczek of Victor, NY; and Ava Lynne Laury of Celoron, NY.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Dr. Roland B. Laury who died December 9, 1975; an infant son James "Jimmy" Osborne Laury in 1960; and a brother, Alton E. Osborne.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in Bellinger Chapel at First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Donald E. Ray will officiate. Visitation will not be observed.
