Obituary of Charles R. Howard
Charles R. Howard, of Gerry, died unexpectedly Tuesday February 5, 2013, in his home.
An area resident all of his life, he was born October 5, 1931, in Jamestown, a son of the late Harold O. and Goldie Milliron Howard.
He was a 1949 graduate of Cassadaga Valley Central School and was a veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1950-54.
He was employed by Lundquist Hardware until 1968 when he took a job with the former Jamestown Telephone Company, which later became Alltel. He retired from Alltel in 1996 as an installer.
He was active at Park United Methodist Church. He served as Town of Gerry Assessor and volunteered in the early years of the Gerry Rodeo. He enjoyed making and flying model airplanes and working on the computer. He was a member of the Gravely Tractor Club.
Surviving are his wife, the former Bernice "Bunny" Smith Howard, whom he married July 5, 1953; three children Linda (O. Dennis) Bartholomew of Gerry, C. Robert Howard of Stockton and H. Daniel Howard of Gerry; 11 grandchildren O. Jason (Rayele) Bartholomew, STG1 Philip C. (Wendy) Bartholomew, Cassandra (AT1(AW/SW) Ryan) Logan, Robert M. (Tanya Heath) Howard, Jennifer (Jamie) Haer, Matthew Howard, Michael Howard, Tammi Howard, Brandi Howard, Jacqueline (Jason) Dorman, and Colton Howard; 21 great grandchildren; a sister Ann H. Picard of Gerry.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. James Bailey will officiate.
Burial will be in Gerry Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 Friday in the funeral home.
