Obituary of Kathleen M. Dahlbeck

Kathleen M. Dahlbeck, 58, of Ashville, NY passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013 in WCA Hospital surrounded by her family. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 29 years, John Dahlbeck, whom she married August 25, 1984. Kathy fought a long and courageous battle and was determined to help others through her experience. She made an anatomical donation to the University of Buffalo so that others may not have to suffer. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced by her family. Kathy was born December 3, 1954 in Jamestown, the daughter of Helen McCarty and the late Daniel McCarty. She graduated from Southwestern Central School in 1973 and received her nursing degree from the University of Buffalo. Prior to her retirement due to illness, Kathy worked as a registered nurse at several area nursing homes, most recently Heritage Green Rehab & Skilled Nursing. In earlier years, she and her husband owned and operated a small logging business. Kathy had a passion for the outdoors, gardening and poultry husbandry. In addition to her husband, John and her mother, Helen, she is survived by her children Poppie, Kevin and Christopher Smith and step-daughters, Jamie and Destiny Dahlbeck; nine grandchildren: Zackary Dahlbeck, Vinessa Hooten-Perez, Chanda Germain, Hunter Germain, Alexia Taylor, and Teagen, Kaylin, Blythe and Keegan Schuchardt; a great-grandson, Samuel Perez; four brothers: David, Tim, Jeff and Brian McCarty; a sister, Mary Lou Van Eseltine; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and an infant sister. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Panama Volunteer Fire Department, 27 E. Main St., Panama, NY 14767.
