Obituary of Goldie L. Carlson
Goldie L. Carlson, 90, of 202 Forest St. Sugar Grove, PA, passed away peacefully at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in her home.
A Sugar Grove resident for most of her life, she was born September 7, 1922 in James City, PA a daughter of the late Durward and Anna Bergren Johnson.
In previous years she had worked as a custodian for the Eisenhower High School and also the Grace United Methodist Church in Warren, PA. She also did private duty home health care in Sugar Grove for several years.
She was an active member of the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, bible school teacher, financial secretary, sang in the choir and was a member of the Covenant Women.
She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother and grandmother who dearly loved her God and family. She loved to spend time reading, doing puzzles, working with ceramics and painting. She also enjoyed babysitting for the grandchildren for many years.
Surviving are five daughters Darlene (Maynard) Sweeney, Karen (Ernest) Wiltsie both of Russell, PA, Deanna (James) Smeltzer, Sharon Carlson both of Sugar Grove, PA, Charlotte (Lawrence) Habbel of Nags Head, NC, two sons John (Suzanne) Carlson of West Columbia, TX, Ernest (Mary) Carlson of Sugar Grove, PA, 14 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, a brother Harold Johnson of Mayville, NY and two sisters Luella Jones of Sinclairville, NY, Nancy Kuntz of Gerry, NY.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband J.E. Iner Carlson who died in 1963, a son Otto Carlson, two brothers Durward Johnson, Jr., Bernard Johnson and two sisters Donna Youngberg and Alice Carlson.
The funeral will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, March 9, 2013, in the Sugar Grove Mission Covenant Church, Sugar Grove, PA. The Rev. Brian Haight, pastor will officiate. Burial will be in the Mission Covenant Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home, Jamestown, NY and for one hour prior to the service on Saturday in the church.
