Obituary of Simon S. Depas

Simon S. Depas, 83, formerly of 264 East Fairmount Ave. Lakewood, NY passed away at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday (March 12, 2013) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident he was born December 5, 1929 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Seraphim Vessel and Athena S. Koka Depas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from February 14, 1951 to February 13, 1953 as a paratrooper. He was employed by the former Maddox Table Company as a furniture finisher for over 30 years and had also worked for several other furniture companies including Fancher Chair Company in Falconer. He was a member of the American Bird Dog Association and the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club. Surviving are his wife the former Nina Nelson whom she married July 4, 1954, a daughter Diane Depas of Jamestown, a son Terry Depas of Jamestown, three brothers Thomas Depas of Jamestown, Chris Depas of Sharon Center, OH, William Depas of Stow, NY and a sister Martha Parry of NC. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Jeffrey A. Depas who died May 10, 2012, a brother Gust Depas and two sisters Fanny Papageorge, Mary Depas. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Childs, pastor of the First Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Bentley Cemetery, Lakewood, NY. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
