Obituary of Bert E. DeVlieger

Bert E. DeVlieger, Sr., 80, formerly of Kennedy, Lakewood and Panama, passed away at 2:10 a.m. Friday (March 29, 2013) in the Heritage Park Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident he was born March 11, 1933 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Robert and Anna Goade DeVlieger. Before his retirement he was employed as a Supervisor for the former Dahlstrom Manufacturing Company, where he worked for 20 years. He was a faithful member of the Niobe Baptist Church and in earlier years was a board member for the Church of the Nazarene where he was instrumental in the ground breaking and building of the church. He will be remembered as a loving and caring father and grandfather who loved to go camping and spend time fishing. Surviving are three daughters Carolyn (Ronnie) Smith of Busti, Pamela DeVlieger of Jamestown, Charlotte McNeill of Greenhurst, two sons Robert E. (Mary) DeVlieger of Panama, Bert E. (Chrissy) DeVlieger, Jr. of Kennedy, 24 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his loving dog "Angel" who was his constant companion through the years. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife the former Esther Malacky DeVlieger whom he married March 18, 1950 and who died August 20, 2005, a sister Joyce Culver, a son Carl J. Stevens and a great grandson Devin Daniels. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Hadley, pastor of the Niobe Baptist Church will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Monday in the funeral home.
