Obituary of Florence J. Brown

Florence J. Brown, 89, formerly of 140 Aldren Avenue, Busti and Celoron, died Sunday April 7, 2013, in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center. She was born December 28, 1923, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Robert and Bessie Jane Grace Hedglin Reese. She was a 1942 graduate of Jamestown High School and later graduated from Northwest Institute of Medical Technology, Minneapolis, MN. Prior to her retirement in 1987, she was employed by Dr. Krahn as a bookkeeper and earlier had worked for Drs. Voltman and Goodell and Jamestown Municipal Lab. She and her husband also owned and operated Brown's Grocery Store in Celoron. She was a lifetime member of Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ where she actively participated for many years. She was a longtime member of the Celoron Fire Department Auxiliary. In her younger years she enjoyed roller skating and square dancing. Surviving is a son Ronald (Tina) Brown of Celoron; four grandchildren Reid (JoAnna) Sorensen of Lakewood, Aaron (Tonia) Brown of West Ellicott, Adam (Jenny) Brown of Lakewood and Amy (James) Chau of Lakewood; six great grandchildren Stephanie, Sarah, Sydney, Dylan, Joslyn and Donavin and 12 nieces and nephews Roger, Cheryl, Duane, Jean, Brian, Brenda, Cecile, Charlotte, David, Bruce, Tom and Doug. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd E. Brown, whom she married July 10, 1943 and who died October 14, 1998; a daughter Bonita Sorensen; granddaughter Kim Sorensen; great grandson Drew Brown and 2 sisters Roberta Johnson and Eleanor Forsberg. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Pilgrim Memorial United Church of Christ. Rev. Dana Douglas will officiate. Inurnment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
