Obituary of Lila M. Jones

Lila M. Jones, 89, formerly of Utica, NY and Jamestown, passed away at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday (April 17, 2013) in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born July 21, 1923 in Utica the daughter of the late Joseph Edward and Ida Candice Wilson Roach. Lila worked as a secretary in the FBI unit at the Rome Air Depot in Rome, NY during the war years. She also worked at various law offices in Utica. Following retirement, she and her husband Griffith moved back to Jamestown where she worked in the cafeteria at JCC. She and her husband loved to travel and spend their winters in Florida. She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. Surviving are her husband Griffith Jones Jr. whom she married June 19, 1943; two daughters, Barbara (Alan) Podosek of Lynchberg, VA; Vanessa (Mark) Davis of Jamestown; a son, Griffith (Carol) Jones III of Snyder, NY; four grandsons, Scot, Brent, and Randy Podosek; Matthew Davis; and two great granddaughters, Emma and Claire. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry and Edward Roach. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Samuel Shreffler will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home.
