Obituary of Alton C Field
Alton C. "Punkin" Field, 82, of 136 Aldren Ave, formerly of 14 Hess St, died at 11:55 a.m. Thursday (April 18, 2013) in his home.
He was born December 25, 1930 in Noxen, PA the son of the late Alton H. and Mildred Blizzard Field.
He was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and was a US Army veteran of the Korean War serving from February 21, 1952 to November 20, 1953.
In earlier years, Alton worked at the former Jamestown Baking Co. Prior to his retirement he was a truck driver for the former Blackstone Corporation and NACO Trucking. He also owned and operated Punkin's Restaurant.
He attended and was a faithful part of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He was also a member of the War Vets, and a life member of the Herman Kent Post 777 American Legion. Alton was an avid golfer and bowler with the seniors and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family. For 29 years, he participated in the Brother's Bowling Tournament in Erie.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude L. "Gert" Parker Field whom he married June 17, 1950; three brothers, Albert (Sandy) Field, Harry S. Field, and Donald "Jake" (Kathy) Field; two sisters, Angie (Marion) Wells, Irene Thompson; a sister in law, Judy Field, all of Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dana E. Field on August 4, 2000; and a sister in law, Arlene N. Field on December 18, 2011.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry McCann will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today and for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the funeral home.
