Obituary of Janet M. DeLong

Janet M. DeLong, 81, of 839 Prendergast Ave. formerly of Maple Springs, NY, passed away at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday (April 30, 2013) in the UPMC Hamot Medical Center, Erie, PA. She was born June 15, 1931 in Jamestown, NY a daughter of the late Burdette "Burt" and Edith Johnson Swanson. She attended Jamestown High School and was a member of the Jamestown Eagles Lodge Auxiliary. Janet will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt who was known as a very talented seamstress. She also enjoyed crafting, reading, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and loved cats, especially her pride and joy, her cats Jill and Scruffy. Surviving are three sons; Daniel Cook of Panama, NY, Jeffrey (Cheryl) Cook of Midway, KY, Jon (Robin) DeLong of Tavernier, FL, five grandchildren; Adam Cook, Tamra Rice both of KY, Tara Strong of GA, Jason Cook of Jamestown, Sara DeLong of FL, five great grandchildren, a sister Joyce Kidd Johnson of Jamestown and a niece Cindy Welling of Sinclairville, NY. She was preceded in death by her first husband William R. (Dick) Cook, her second husband James T. DeLong who died in 1984, two sons Jay DeLong who died in 2003, Jerry DeLong who died in 1987 and a brother Ronald Swanson. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Daniel W. Cook will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed. Memorials may be made to the Lakeshore Humane Society, 431 East Chestnut St. Dunkirk, NY 14048.
