Obituary of Nancy I. Berry

Nancy Gustafson Berry, 78, of 295 Shadyside Avenue, Lakewood, NY passed away, May 14, 2013 at WCA Hospital after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers. She was born April 23, 1935 in Lakewood, NY, daughter of Almina and Karl Gustafson. She was married to Allan Berry, May 29, 1954. Nancy was dedicated to her family. She loved to cook and made her home the center of family celebrations. The dinners she prepared for holidays, birthdays, and special occasions were legendary. She also created all the homemade pies for Grazers Restaurant in Lakewood, NY. Nancy balanced her love of food with her love of exercise. She exercised at the Lakewood YMCA at 5:30 every morning, encouraging other members to be fit and healthy. She also loved arts and crafts and will be remembered for her many paintings, duck carvings, and her hand painted driftwood Santa Clauses. Before her retirement Nancy worked at the American Red Cross in Jamestown and the Book Store at Jamestown Community College. She was also active in the Lakewood Elementary PTA and the Lakewood Women's Club Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Almina and Karl Gustafson, her sisters Gloria Scheller and Phyllis Miller, and her brother Donald Gustafson. She was survived by her husband Allan Berry; her three sons Daniel (Barb) Berry of Lakewood, Scott (Anna) Berry of Jamestown, and Todd (April) Berry of Poquoson, Va; grandchildren, Benjamin and Alexis Berry of Lakewood, Sofia and Gabrielle Berry of Jamestown, Elisa (Albert) Warner, Julia Berry, Andrea Berry and their mother Michelle Wood of Jamestown, Jennica Anderson of West Virginia, Amanda (Corey) VanArsdale of Erie, PA, Courtney Uhlig of Poquoson, Va. four great grandchildren; a brother, Roger Gustafson of Jamestown; and her care giver of several years Tess Courson. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Violet A. Davidson, pastor of Lakewood United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Bentley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
