Obituary of Doris B. Allenson

Doris B. Allenson passed away peacefully on May 14, 2013 at Lutheran Rehabilitation Care Facility where she has been a resident since April 2010. Doris was born on November 28, 1917 to Horace and Augusta Butts in Jamestown, NY. She was a 1935 graduate of Jamestown High School. She worked as a secretary until her marriage to Ralph A. Allenson on June 29, 1939. Together they raised 3 children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She stayed at home when her children were young and enjoyed many hobbies. In 1953, she helped form the West Side Antique Club which continued to meet until 1998. She volunteered at Jamestown General Hospital for many years as a "gray lady".. In 1965, Doris and Ralph moved to Rochester, NY and returned to Jamestown after one year. Then, together, they began building their dream home on Palm Road. Their home became the family gathering place where the entire family enjoyed many happy times. Doris lived there until she became a resident at Lutheran at age 92. Also upon her return to Jamestown, Doris became Administrative Secretary to Nursing Service at WCA Hospital, a position she held for 20 years. She was a long time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church Doris was preceded in passing by her parents, her husband Ralph A. Allenson, a son David R. Allenson, a sister Genevieve Mattson, and a brother James A. Butts. She is survived by her son Stephen P. Allenson (Janie) of Santa Maria, Ca., her daughter Susan C. Carlson (Cliff) of Jamestown, her grandchildren Cynthia S. Rodgers (Kevin) and Lisa C. Carlson both of Jamestown, Michael D. Allenson (Lisa) of Bemus Point, Todd D. Allenson (Bev) of Louisville, CO, Mathew S. Allenson (Jennifer) of Napa, CA, Michael G. Loso (Karen) of Anchorage, AK, and Mark A. Loso (Linda) of Stockholm, Sweden. She had eleven great grandchildren; Aidan and Collin Rodgers of Jamestown, Meghan and Christopher Allenson of Bemus Point; Ethan, Tyler, and Ryan Allenson of Napa, Ca., Evan and Ryan Allenson of Louisville, CO, Harlan and Ruby Sue Loso of Anchorage, AK. A memorial service will be held at Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Retirement Home, 715 Falconer St., Jamestown, NY on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm. Family will receive friends one half hour before the service and for one hour following the service in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jamestown Audubon Society, 1600 Riverside Rd., Jamestown, NY 14701 or a charity of one's choice.
