Obituary of Ralph A. Day, Jr.
Ralph A. Day, Jr., 88, of 5410 Route 474, Ashville, NY passed away at 8:04 a.m. Tuesday (June 4, 2013) in the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility.
A lifelong area resident he was born June 28, 1924 in Ripley, NY a son of the late Ralph A. and Bertha Marie Randall Day.
He attended the Ripley Central School and the Eastern Bible Institute in Green Lane, PA.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from November 15, 1945 to December 4, 1946 during World War II where he received the World War II Victory Medal and the American Campaign Medal.
Before his retirement in 1989, he was employed by the former Jamestown Metal Corporation for over 30 years. Following his retirement he had worked for the Downtown Jamestown Development Corporation as a parking attendant.
He was a member of the Restored Church of God in Orchard Park, NY and was a member of the American Legion.
He was one who put God first in his life and will be remembered as one who loved playing his guitar and working in his garden.
Surviving are two daughters Darlene (Kevin) Conway of Ashville, NY, Joyce (Jon) Ettinger of Warren, PA, a son Elroy Day of Charlotte, NC, two granddaughters Meghan Conway, Kayla Conway both of Ashville, his former wife Janet Day of Jamestown, three sisters Mildred Day of CA, Lucille Lundquist, Dorothy Day both of Ripley, NY, and two brothers Francis Day of Rochester, NY, Clarence Day of OH.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers Donald, Kenneth and Walter Day.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, 2013, in the Lind Funeral Home. Mr. Gary Goebel pastor of the Restored Church of God will officiate. Burial will be in the Blockville Union Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the funeral home.
