I knew Arlene back in the early to mid 1960s when she worked at Nelson's Bakery in Jamestown, NY. She was a very sweet and compassionate person. I thought a lot of her. I was devastated when she told me that she was moving to Minneapolis. Over the years, I have thought of her often. And whenever "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was on the television, my thoughts would immediately go to Arlene, wondering how she was, what she was doing, and where she was. I miss her to this very day!

I met Arlene at IBM when I joined the company in 1996. She always brought a smile to my face as we cut up and joked around about the daily work grind. Later post her IBM retirement I saw her so many times as I was running for the various 1/2 marathons.. I always stopped to talk to her and catch up! She was and is an inspiration to an "avid" runner like myself.. Arlene rest in peace. My deepest sympathy to her family.

I knew Arlene through the two years we shared at JCC. I always appreciated her wit and strength. I was sad to learn of her difficult road towards the end. Sounds like most of her life was good and robust though, until her battle with cancer. My sympathies to her family and Judith, whom I did not have the opportunity to meet.

For 57 years Arlene was a true and treasured friend of mine. In our younger years, we were teammates in softball and competitors in basketball. Her beloved father Carl and my mother were at every game and were our staunchest supporters. Our careers took us to different parts of the country but we always visited each others homes however long the journey and kept up with the current events, including the highs and lows of our lives throughout those 57 years via phone calls/e-mails and even snail mail. I spent a week with Arlene and Judith in late January when Arlene was deep in her battle with cancer yet she never lost her sense of humor, compassion for others or her smile. Everyone should have a true friend like Arlene. I was surely blessed to have her in my life. My heart goes out to Judith and my sincere sympathies to Arlene's friends and family.

I spent two years at JCC with Erska and marched with her in the drum and bugle corps. I was always in awe because she was such a strong woman. A little larger than life. My deepest sympathy to her family and her best friend Judith. We have lost a dear and loving friend. Rest in peace dear Arlene.

I first met Arlene in the "Green Room" at JCC, in 1960, felt an immediate kinship with her, and we remained fast friends through all these years. Erska (as we came to call her) had a fantastic sense of humor, a quick wit, and at the same time was one of the kindest, most generous people I ever knew. I cry to know she is gone; I smile to know she is in a better place; I laugh when I remember the great times spent with an amazing pal. My heart goes out to her family, and to Judith, at this difficult time.
