Obituary of William A. Woodin
William A. Woodin, 92, of Route 474 Ashville, died unexpectedly Saturday (June 8, 2013) in his home.
He was born March 30, 1921 in Ashville, NY the son of the late Floyd and Mary Allison Woodin.
William was a 1939 graduate of Lakewood High School. As a teenager, he worked on the Roy Faulkner farm in Watts Flats. In 1940, he started working for the Erie Lackawana Railroad, which became Conrail, working on the section and as a tower operator until his retirement in 1981. Also, he worked at Chautauqua during the summer doing landscaping with Harold Ayling. He loved the outdoors and was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He will be missed by his family, friends, and neighbors.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Virginia Grover Woodin whom he married May 17, 1947; three children, Ken (Pat) Sturges; Nancy (Jim) Simmons, both of Ashville; Les (Cindy) Woodin of Kennedy; eight grandchildren, Lisa Saxton of Panama; Amy (Randy) Josephson, Kenny (Natalie) Sturges, Karen (Eric) Putnam, all of Ashville; Jamie (Rhonda) Simmons of Jamestown; Tim (the late Dawn) Simmons, Rhonda (Charles) Dodson, both of Mesquite, TX; Andrew Woodin of Falconer; 12 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Jean (the late Ivan) Carr of Ashville; and Helen (the late Ralph) Farren of Jamestown.
The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday June 10, 2013 in the Lind Funeral Home. The Rev. Rodney Sprowls, pastor of Panama Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday June 9, in the funeral home.
