Obituary of Anthony P. LaPlaca

Anthony P. "Tony" LaPlaca, 74, formerly of Lakewood, NY, passed away at 10:43 a.m. Sunday (June 9, 2013) in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility, following an extended illness. A lifelong area resident he was born October 6, 1938 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late James and Laura Messina LaPlaca. Tony was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving from August 1, 1957 to April 11, 1960. Before his retirement due to ill health he was employed by the Post Journal for over 20 years. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood, NY. In earlier years he was an avid bowler and was an accomplished baseball and softball player. He was also a former member of the Lower Lake Area Men's Association in Ashville, NY. Surviving are his wife the former Marilyn Cusimano whom he married July 22, 1961, two sons Steven LaPlaca of Adams, NY, James (Lisa) LaPlaca of Belmont, CA, five grandchildren, Lindsay LaPlaca of Rochester, NY, Robert LaPlaca, McKena LaPlaca both of Adams, NY, Andrew LaPlaca of Watertown, NY, Zelia LaPlaca of Belmont, CA and a great grandson Mason LaPlaca of Watertown, NY. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Visitation will not be observed. The daily mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lakewood will be said in Tony's honor on Thursday June 20, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. Memorials may be made in support of his granddaughter McKena to the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy, 925 Busse Road, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
