Several people asked for a copy of my tribute to Dad read at the funeral.
How do you convey the essence of a person in a few words?
Dad is a character. A hard working, talented, creative man of integrity and good humor who’s generosity we’ve all witnessed through the decades.
Dad is grounded in his unwavering Faith and principles. We are lucky to have grown up under his strong hand and big heart. Mom and Dad are an unbreakable team.
Growing up with a crowd of strong willed, stubborn people is not easy, but the important and rewarding things in life are never easy.
We had the best of the most important things in life: faith, love, extended family, friends; the woods, creek, fields and swamp; and the biggest set of building blocks in the county …. maybe in the state.
When life was difficult and knocked him down, Dad always came back fighting against all odds. Eighteen years ago when he was recovering from bypass surgery, Dad channeled his energies positively, doing things like completing a course in Writing for Children, and doing practical jokes that required time and precision. Dad wasn’t known for great patience, but there were times that he could do it. We remember the Christmas when the mixed nut bowl was filled with surprises. A walnut might contain an almond or M&M. A pecan might have a small jelly bean or peanut inside.
Dad loves simple pleasures and good humor. If everyone had a Dad that was even a small shadow of Dar Eckstrom, the world would be a much better place. Dad was so tired. Now he is in a better place and all who choose can join him there for eternity. We love you and we’ll see you later Dad.

Even in the midst of the sorrow of physical separation, we rejoice that another of God's children is now walking the streets of Glory, praising His Lord and Saviour. We'll renew our former acquaintance of years gone by in a place where there is no more suffering, where we'll face no more problems, have no more decisions to make and where there is peace and joy forevermore. As the song writer so aptly expressed it: "Sitting at the feet of Jesus, where can mortal be more blessed?" Darwin is to be envied -- he's made it safely home!

Your home was always a special place for me, full of laughter and good times. May God's love and the love you share as family carry you through this time of loss.

"I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love." Leo Buscaglia
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. ROMANS 5:1
