Obituary of Geraldine M. Hammerstedt
Geraldine M. Hammerstedt, 90, of 165 Aldren Avenue, formerly of Hallock Street, died Friday August 16, 2013 in the Lutheran Home and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of Jamestown, she was born September 2, 1922, a daughter of John and Alva Larson Soderstrom.
She was a 1940 graduate of Jamestown High School.
She began her working career at the Bank of Jamestown and then with her husband owned and operated Walters Jewelers from 1945-67. Prior to her retirement she was employed by Automatic Voting Machine-Rollform Division as office manager.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Maplehurst Country Club, Moon Brook Country Club, Norden Women's Club, Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Westside Women, Eastern Star and various bridge clubs.
Surviving are two sons Mark (Sandra) Hammerstedt of Mt Pleasant, SC and John Hammerstedt of Syracuse, NY; two grandchildren Allyson Hammerstedt of Boston, MA and Sarah Hammerstedt of Plano, TX; three step grandsons; seven step great grandchildren; a brother Phillip (Ruth) Soderstrom of Sun City, AZ and a sister Lucille Gillard of Hubbard Lake, MI.
She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Hammerstedt, whom she married November 29, 1947 in Bethel Lutheran Church and who died April 14, 2001.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate.
Burial will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Sunday in the funeral home.
