Obituary of Joseph C. Mistretta
Joseph C. Mistretta, 84, of 317 Fairmount Avenue, died Friday August 16, 2013, in WCA Hospital.
A native of Jamestown, he was born April 24, 1929, a son of the late Philip and Rosalie Insera Mistretta.
He was a 1948 graduate of Jamestown High School and served in the US Army from 1951-53 as a paratrooper.
He was employed by Watson Manufacturing as a metal assembler.
He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. He umpired baseball and softball for many years and has been inducted into the Chautauqua County Umpires Hall of Fame. Above all else his pride and joy were his great grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years Alice Lyon Mistretta, whom he married June 4, 1952; three children Debra (Frank) Smith of Ashboro, NC, Phillip (Miriam) Mistretta and Kathleen Mistretta, both of Jamestown; five grandchildren Mandy (Michael) Smith, Danielle (Ben) Harbor, Tamara (Jason) Strachan, Brian Mistretta and Vincent (Emme) Mistretta and seven great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Francis Mistretta.
The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. John L. Kuhlmann will officiate.
Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
