Obituary of John C. Alonge
John C. Alonge Sr., 94, formerly of 3017 Garfield Road and Tanglewood Manor, died Tuesday August 20, 2013 in Absolut at Westfield.
He was born August 3, 1919 in Westfield, NY the son of the late Nicholas and Pauline Ferreta Alonge.
John was a veteran of the US Army serving during WWII with the 103rd Field Artillery Battalion, 43rd Division. For his service, he was awarded the American Defense Service Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, and the Asiatic/Pacific Service Medal.
Prior to his retirement, John worked at Dahlstrom Mfg for over 35 years.
He was a member of the VFW and a communicant of St James Catholic Church.
John loved sports, especially baseball, and he was an avid bowler.
Surviving are four sons, John C. (Mary) Alonge Jr. of Jamestown; Gerald P. (Marie) Alonge of Meadville, PA; Jack B. (Susan) Alonge of Dunkirk; Jeffrey A. Alonge of Jamestown; eight grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and a brother, Nick (Nora) Alonge of Westfield.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Pintagro Alonge whom he married June 20, 1942 and who died July 15, 2005; three sisters and three brothers.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Lind Funeral Home. Deacon Michael Lennon from St James Catholic Church will officiate.
Burial with full military honors will follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
