Obituary of Delores S. Anderson
Delores (Anderson) Sullivan Anderson, 91, formerly of Owana Way, Lakewood and Driftwood Road, Bemus Point died Tuesday September 17, 2013 at Hultquist Place in Jamestown.
Mrs. Anderson was born on March 23, 1922 in Jamestown to David G. and Lillian Anderson. She attended Jamestown schools and graduated from Jamestown High School, Class of 1940. She attended the University of Michigan but her college life was cut short because of the war as she was needed at home to work at Anderson Cleaners, the family business.
On May 30, 1944 she married Paul Beebe Sullivan. Mr. Sullivan, always very active in civic affairs, was President of what became Chase Lincoln First Bank and was Executive Director of the Ralph C. Sheldon Foundation when he died on July 2, 1997.
During her younger years, Mrs. Anderson was active in Girl Scouts, both as a scout and as a leader. She also was active in Creche and the WCA Hospital, as a volunteer in many different capacities. She helped form the Co-ed Club at the YWCA and served as its director from 1962-1965. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church and had been a member of the YWCA, WCA Auxiliary, James Prendergast Library, Moon Brook Country Club and the Chautauqua Lake Yacht Club.
On November 23, 2002 she married her second husband, Frank O. Anderson II, who was a Jamestown native but spent many years in Michigan where he had been associated with the Chrysler Corporation. Mr. Anderson died on December 12, 2006.
A brother, Burton M. Anderson, who died on January 25, 2013, also preceded her in death.
In addition to her children, Peter B. Sullivan of Bemus Point and Marcia Fenn of Edgartown, MA, she is survived by three grandchildren, Katy Burns of South Orange, NJ, Lindsay McCann of Brooklyn, NY and Judson Sullivan of Seattle, WA; two step-grandchildren, Geoffrey Fenn of Buffalo and Gregory Fenn of Raleigh, NC, seven great-grandchildren, Miller, Cecily, Arden, Serena, Beckett, Judson, Sullivan, and six step great-grandchildren. Her daughter-in-law, Holly, and her son-in-law, Richard, who were very dear to her, also survive as does a brother, Sydney Anderson of Inverness, FL; a sister, Donna Smith of Deptford, NJ and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Fenn will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Lake View Cemetery.
Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Wednesday in the funeral home.
