Obituary of Warren P. Fisher

Warren P. "Bud" Fisher, of 68 Chestnut Street, died Thursday September 26, 2013, in WCA Hospital. Born in Jamestown on April 8, 1918, he was the son of the late Jerome and Imagene Partridge Fisher. He attended Jamestown Public Schools and graduated from The Manlius School in June 1937. He attended Miami University, Oxford, OH from September 1937 to his graduation in June 1941. He volunteered and was accepted by the US Navy Air Corps in August 1941 when he started flight training at Floyd Bennett Field, Brooklyn, NY. He went on to advanced training in Jacksonville, FL and completed training November 1942 in Miami, FL with the rank of Ensign. Assigned to Fighting Squadron VF-12 in December 1942 through June 1944, he was engaged in various naval operations in the South Pacific and Indian Oceans while aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga. He was awarded the Air Medal and Distinguished Flying Cross for his participation in air strikes against Japanese held island bases. He was attached to the Wildwood Naval Air Station, Wildwood, NJ as assistant operations officer and photographic officer from July 1944 to November 1945 when he was honorably discharged from the Navy. He was officially retired in October 1955 with the rank of Lt. Commander, USNR. Following World War II he was employed in the Advertising Department of Art metal, Inc as assistant to the Advertising Manager until 1961. In October 1961, he was employed by Marlin-Rockwell Corporation, later known as TRW Inc., where he was a Technical Writer in the Marketing Communications Department. He was responsible for the production of company bearing catalogs and various new letters. He retired from TRW Inc in October 1983. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Town Club, United Postal Stationery Society, active member of Reuben E. Fenton Philatelic Society and life member of the American Philatelic Society. He served as president of the Niagara Frontier Federation of Stamp Clubs for a term, wrote a monthly stamp column published in the Post Journal as well as a monthly news letter for the Fenton Stamp Club. Surviving are a nephew Jerome Fisher IV of Atlanta; niece Wendy Bruner of Milwaukee, WI; great nephew Eric Bruner and great niece Amy Bruner. He was preceded in death by his wife the former Geneva Helgren, whom he married May 9, 1947 and who died March 23, 2012 and a brother Jerome Fisher III June 16, 1983. The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Rev. Wendy Heinz will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. Friends will be received for one hour prior to the service Tuesday in the funeral home.
