Obituary of A. Roger Wennberg
A. Roger Wennberg, 95, formerly of 136 Aldren Ave. and The Glen, died at 12:40 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at the Lutheran Home & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Jamestown on February 27, 1918, the son of the late Arthur R. and Ruby Anderson Wennberg, and graduated from Purdue University in 1950. A veteran of the US Army Air Corps, Roger served in the Air Force Reserves, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He was employed in earlier years by Steel Partitions and retired in 1980 from the Blackstone Corporation.
Roger was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ for over 50 years, serving on many committees and administrative offices. He was also a member of the Kiantone Fire Department for more than 50 years. As a Mason, he belonged to the Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #145 F & AM and the Consistory. Other memberships include the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the United States Air Force Association. Roger was always interested in archeology and enjoyed golf and bowling.
He is survived by his wife, the former Geraldine Lewis, whom he married October 10, 1942; four children: Susan (Bill) Rice of Morgantown, WV, David (Nita) Wennberg of Waxahachie, TX, Jon (Pat) Wennberg of Jamestown and Daniel Wennberg of Falconer; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in Christ Chapel of the Lutheran Home. The Rev. Daniel S. Rumfelt will officiate. A Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Sunday immediately prior to the full funeral service. The pall bearers will be members of the Kiantone Fire Department.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services Sunday at Christ Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kiantone Fire Dept., First Congregational United Church of Christ, or to Lutheran Social Services.
