Obituary of Richard Morris Jones
Richard M. Jones, 87, of 2656 Horton Rd. Jamestown, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, in W.C.A. Hospital.
A lifelong area resident, he was born August 7, 1926 in Jamestown, NY a son of the late Frank T. and Helga Carlson Jones, Sr.
He was a 1944 graduate of Jamestown High School and the Dunwoody Baking Institute in 1950. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1944 to 1946 during World War II.
Before his retirement years he was the owner and President of the family business, Jones Tasty Baking Inc. which served the Jamestown area for 96 years.
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church, the Jamestown Eagles Lodge, the Thule Lodge # 127 VASA Order of America, Ingjald Lodge # 65 Independent Order of the Vikings and a life member of the Ira Lou Spring Post # 149 American Legion. He was also very active in local Masonic circles with memberships in Mt. Moriah Lodge # 145 Free and Accepted Masons, Western Sun Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Dunkirk Commandery, Dunkirk Council Cryptic Masons, Kharram Grotto, St. Marks Conclave, Jamestown Consistory, Ismalia Shriners and the past Commander's Association. He also served as Past Commander of the Jamestown Commandery, and was honorable Past High Priest of the Western Sun Chapter, Royal Arch Masons 67 Jamestown, NY.
Surviving are his wife the former Marilyn Irwin whom he married May 10, 1947, his five children; Candace (John) Schupp of Jamestown, Todd M. Jonsson of Brocton, NY, Kimball (Nancy) Jones of Charlotte, NC, Robin (David) Conklin of Jamestown, Matthew Jones of Lockport, NY, eight grandchildren; Anastasia and Nicholas Conklin of Jamestown, Erik Jonsson of FL, Korrin Mundo of Sinclairville, NY, Brendon Jonsson of NC, Steven Jonsson of Dunkirk, NY, Kimberly, Sean Jones of Jamestown and six great grandchildren; Maxwell and Gabriella Knight, Cyrus and Sage Jones, Hugo and Mayt Mundo.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers; Frank Jones, Jr., Floyd Jones, Gordon Jones and two sisters; Alice Mackie and Eline Sanctuary.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in Bethel Lutheran Church. The Rev. Alan Anderson will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Lake view Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home where a Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
